Gladys Mae Evans McClendon, age 78, of Greensboro, GA, died Saturday, July 31, 2004 at Athens Regional Medical Center. Born in Walton County on August 16, 1925, she was the daughter of the late Greene David Evans and Angeline C. Ford Evans. She attended Greensboro High School and in September of 1942 married Rollan McClendon. Over the years she worked as a seamstress for Lena-Hy Garment Company and several other sewing plants. She was a member of Mt. Stephens Baptist Church in White Plains. A She was preceded in death by her husband, Rollan McClendon in May of 1991; two sons, Kenneth McClendon and Rev. David McClendon; three sisters, Hazel Mize, Peggy Hagwood and Ann Sherrell; and two brothers, G. T. "Bull" Evans and J. D. Evans. She is survived by a daughter, Louise M. Arthur and husband Dennis of Macon, GA; a son, Michael McClendon and wife Wanda of Greensboro, GA; a brother, Flay Evans of Madison, GA; nine grandchildren, Mike Fowler, Debbie Perkins, Brian McClendon, Jason McClendon, Clayton McClendon, Pam Lavoie, Rachel Arthur, Melissa Bowden and Michele McClendon; eight great grandchildren, Billy Perkins, Katie Perkins, Tre'' Gresham, Caleb Davis, Amanda Hattaway, Chelsea Hattaway, Kyle Adriance and Elizabeth Adriance. A Funeral Services will be held on Monday, August 2, 2004 at 2:00 p.m. at McCommons Chapel with Rev. Dennis Garner and Rev. David Jordan officiating. Interment will follow at Greensboro City Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers are Brian McClendon, Jason McClendon, Clayton McClendon, Keith Hagwood, Mike Fowler, Kenny Geter, Thomas Hattaway, Lanier Moss and Bill Perkins. The family requests that any memorials be made to the American Cancer Society, 1684 Barnett Shoals Road, Athens, GA 30605.
