Gladys Holcomb Edwards, age 87, of White Plains, GA, died Thursday, April 24, 2003 at Minnie G. Boswell Memorial Hospital. A native of Greene County she was born September 6, 1915 to the late David Randolphus Holcomb and Minnie Ellen Ward Holcomb. She was a graduate of Greensboro High School. A lifelong resident of Hancock County, she was a homemaker and a member of White Plains United Methodist Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, James Sherman Edwards and a son, James Cecil Edwards. She is survived by one daughter, Audrey E. Mayo of White Plains, GA; a son, Ray Edwards of White Plains, GA; a sister, Frances Alexander of Tucker, GA; nine grandchildren, Tim Mayo and wife Jane, Pam Nix and husband Lamar, Kay Epps and husband Ashley, Jay Mayo, Darrell Edwards, Keith Edwards, Cristel Radford and husband Shannon, Dean Edwards and Karen Edwards; four great-grandchildren, David Mayo, Meghan Nix, Patrick Nix and Chelsey Epps; and a number of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Services will be held Friday, April 25, 2003 at 11:00 a.m. at White Plains United Methodist Church with Rev. Ed Cadle and Rev. Les Cowart officiating. Interment will follow at White Plains Baptist Church Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers are Charles Morgan, Ellis Morgan, Charlie Edwards, Billy Davis, Larry Eley and Bobby Moore. The family requests that any memorials be made to the White Plains Baptist Church Cemetery, 1020 Main Street, White Plains, GA 30678. The family will receive friends from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Thursday night at the funeral home. McCommons Funeral Home, 109 W. Broad St., Greensboro, GA, (706) 453-2626, is in charge of arrangements.
