Gerald (Jerry) Peter Grippando, beloved husband, father, and grandfather, of Greensboro, GA, passed away on April 1, 2023, after a lengthy illness. He was 77 years old. Jerry was born on August 11, 1945, in Chicago, IL, and he was one of five children to Joseph Grippando and Mary (Lullo) Grippando. Jerry was raised in Dolton, IL, a suburb of Chicago. He graduated from Thornton Township High School, and he earned a bachelor’s degree in accounting from St. Joseph’s College in Rensselaer, IN. His working career began during his childhood, first delivering newspapers and then working as a caddy with his brothers at a local golf club. Professionally, Jerry’s career spanned over 40 years and took him around the country with him holding various management and leadership positions in accounting, manufacturing, and information technology. In 2008, Jerry retired from Simmons Bedding Company in Atlanta, GA, after 25 years of service. In 2017, he moved to Greensboro, GA, to be near family.
Jerry married the love of his life, Kathleen (Kathy) Hriszko, on July 15, 1967. Together, they raised two sons, Jeff and David. Jerry was a loving husband and father who was dedicated to caring for and supporting his family. He led by example, teaching the importance of: family, loyalty, integrity, perseverance, and a strong work ethic. Jerry approached life, and all of its challenges, with eternal optimism, and he was always willing to offer such kind, hopeful advice to others.
Jerry is survived by his: wife, Kathy Grippando of Greensboro, GA; sons, Jeff (Tracey) Grippando of Canton, OH, and David (Cindy) Grippando of Greensboro, GA; and grandchildren, Casey (Josh) Shaffer, Sam Grippando, and Catherine Grippando. He is also survived by his siblings, Camille Evely, Richard (Linda) Grippando, and Anne Marie (John) Stole and by his sister-in-law, Patricia Grippando. Jerry was preceded in death by his brother, Joseph Grippando. Jerry was also a beloved uncle to eleven nieces and nephews.
A Funeral Mass will be held on Tuesday, May 9, 2023, at 11:00 a.m. at Christ Our King and Savior Catholic Church in Greensboro, GA, with Father Michael Silloway officiating.
