George Williams Obituary

George Clinton “GC” Williams, 85, went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, March 18th, 2023 passing away at St Mary’s in Athens. He was born on June 20, 1937 the youngest child of the late George Kemper Williams and Ercel Agatha Williams. He attended Virginia Tech and married Eva Katharine Blackburn on April 7th, 1973. He proudly served his country in the United States Army.
 
George spent the bulk of his career in Roads and Highways, with Washington DC government. He worked for the Department of Transportation retiring in 1991. He lived in DC (Maryland) then on Memorial Day in 2000 came to Reynolds when he was 60 and has lived in Greensboro since then. GC was an active member of the First United Methodist Church of Greensboro. His many interests included golfing, volunteering at the church, at the Lions International Foundation, and Habitat for Humanity among others.
 
George is survived by his beloved wife of 50 years Eva Katharine (Kathy) Williams; brother, Thurman (Sonny) Williams, wife Dorothy; nieces and nephews: Cathy Perelman, Sharon DeFur, Phillip Booth, Linda Eppes, Wayne Booth, Pam Cloessner, Margaret Blankenship, John Williams, Joe Williams, Mary Rubas, Randy Williams, Baron Williams, Karen Chekonik, Jeff Williams, Beverly Wyberski; other relatives and many good friends. He was preceded in death by his Siblings: Ralph Williams, wife Mary, Madeline Hall, husband Bentley, Katherine Booth, husband Landon “Red”, Laura Alice Williams, Helen Cuffel, Sherman Williams ( Buddy), wife Jeanette; nephews, David Williams, Joel Booth, and Robert Echols. 
 
A Memorial Service will be held on Friday, April 7, 2023 at 11:00 am at the First United Methodist Church South Campus, 4741 Carey Station Road, Greensboro, GA with Dr. Troy Holloway and Pastor Michelle Testman officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service. The family requests that memorials be made in his honor to the First United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 216, Greensboro, GA 30642.
