George Keenan

George Keenan, a resident of Greensboro, Georgia, passed away peacefully at his home with his family on Thursday, May 7, 2026, at the age of 91. He and his wife had moved to Greensboro ten years ago from Paradise, Pennsylvania. Born on October 14, 1934, in Forest Grove, New Jersey, George was the son of the late James Francis Keenan and Barbara B. Steudle Keenan.  He was a graduate of Clayton High School in Clayton, N.J., earned his Bachelor of Arts degree from Temple University in Philadelphia, PA, and also attended the National War College in Washington, D.C., while in the service.  On April 16, 1988, he married Margaret Mary Jones in Pitman, N.J.

George proudly dedicated thirty-nine years to serving his country in the New Jersey National Guard, United States Army and the United States Army Reserve holding positions as Company Commander, Battalion S3, and Battalion Commander, before retiring as a full Colonel in 1989.  During his military career, he worked for E. I. Dupont in Wilmington, Delaware for 38 years, retiring for a second time on August 31, 1991. He was a faithful member of Christ Our King and Savior Catholic Church. He loved playing golf, traveling and baseball.  He was an avid Phillies fan.

He is survived by his beloved wife of thirty-eight years, Margaret Keenan of Greensboro, GA; his son, Craig S. Keenan of Greensboro, GA; his four granddaughters, Alyssa, Olivia, and Emma, all of Paradise, PA, and Sarah of Greensboro, GA; and his toy poodle, Izzie. George is also survived by a brother Richard (Joann) of Vineland, N.J.  George was preceded in death by five of his siblings:  Joseph (Ruth) and William, both of Clearwater, FL; James (Maizie), Frederick (Mary) and Harold, all of Vineland, N.J. 

The Funeral Mass will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, May 21, 2026, at Christ Our King and Savior Catholic Church, 6341 Lake Oconee Parkway, Greensboro, GA 30642, with Father Adam Blatt officiating. A reception will follow in the Social Hall. Interment will be at Holy Cross Cemetery in Mays Landing, N.J.
