George Hagelin Johnson of Greensboro, Georgia, son of the late George Axel Johnson and Florence Waechter Johnson, died on Sunday, April 5, 2020 at the age of 79. He was born March 19, 1941 in Baltimore, MD. He graduated from Towson High School in Maryland and earned an Engineering Degree from Lehigh University in Pennsylvania. After graduation, he began a career in telecommunications and retired from Verizon Communications as a Director in 1994. George married Joyce Earnhardt on April 22, 1995. Moving from Wilmington, NC they have lived in Greene County for the last thirteen years. George had a wonderful sense of humor enjoyed biking, boating, traveling, the Maryland Terrapins and spending lots of time with all of his family. He was a beloved husband, father and grandfather.
He is survived by his wife of nearly 25 years, Joyce Johnson of Greensboro, GA; two sons, Timothy Johnson (Hilary) of Bethesda, MD, Christopher Johnson (Melissa) of Darwin, Australia; stepson, Michael Strickland, Sr. (Kathrine) of Woodstock, GA; sister, Ellie Schubert of Missouri; ten grandchildren, Zoe, Olivia, Kylie, Georgia, Ann, Patrick, Ashley, Emily, Michael Jr. and Jordan; other relatives and many friends. He was preceded in death by his stepson, Mark Strickland.
A celebration of his life will be held at a later date.
