George Emory Copelan, a lifelong resident of the Greshamville Community, passed away on Tuesday, February 10, 2026, at the age of 78. Born on February 18, 1947, in Madison, GA, he was one of three sons born to the late George Emory Copelan and Bessie Dean Hill Copelan. George was a graduate of Greensboro High School, Georgia Military College, and Georgia College. He married Nancy Norris on January 7, 1994. George was an independent Sales Representative in the Lawn and Garden Industry, operating as G. Copelan & Associates. He was a dedicated and loyal lifetime member of Fork Chapel Methodist Church, where he played the piano for nearly sixty-four years, beginning at the age of fourteen. An avid Georgia Tech fan, he also had a great love for cocker spaniels and, in his younger years, enjoyed coon hunting.
George is survived by his wife, Nancy Copelan of Greshamville, and his two sons: James Emory Copelan, along with his children Emory Isaac Copelan and Mia Sidney Copelan and their mother Rocio Copelan; and Todd Patrick Copelan, his wife Julie, and their daughter, Lily Beth. He is also survived by his brothers, Wynn Copelan and his wife Janet of Greshamville, and Jackie Copelan of Greshamville, as well as many other relatives and a host of friends. He is also survived by his beloved dog, Hooty Bowie.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, February 14, 2026, at Fork Chapel Methodist Church, located at 1401 Farmington Road, Madison, GA 30650 with visitation one hour prior to the service at the church. Reverend Bill Neeley will be officiating, and burial will follow in the Fork Chapel Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers are his nephews: Craig Copelan, Mitchell Copelan, Thomas Chillemi, Hudson Chillemi, Jeff Brown, and Tommy Chillemi. Honorary pallbearers will be Billy Duvall, Will Duvall, Billy Copelan, Ray Pittman, Ronnie Stapp, and Leon Binion.
