Gayle Gulner Jones Hart, age 100, died Sunday, April 27, 2008 at Greene Point Health Care Center in Union Point. Gayle was born in Martin County, Indiana on March 11, 1908, one of nine children of the late John Anderson Jones and Anna M. Licht Jones. She attended a one room school house in Shoals, Indiana. Most of her life she was a homemaker but also operated a catering business in Cincinnati, Ohio. During her 70s and 80s she won a number of gold medals in the Senior Olympics. She enjoyed crocheting and made many lap blankets for the seniors in nursing homes. While in Cincinnati she volunteered a great deal at the senior center. She was of the Catholic faith and took communion from Christ Our King and Savior Catholic Church in Greensboro. Mrs. Hart had made her home in Greene County since April of 2006. She will be remembered for the great cook that she was, her athletic ability, her unending generosity and care for others and most important her love for her family.
Mrs. Hart was preceded in death by a daughter, Mary Margaret Johns; and siblings: Homer H. Jones, Lucy Abel, Hazel Mae Jones Ragsdale, August Jones, Austin Jones, Mazie Ragsdale, Amos A. Jones, and Woodrow Jones. She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Rita and James H. Jones of Greensboro, GA; a son, Lawrence Milton Hart of Cincinnati, Ohio; 5 grandchildren, Dana Leigh Jones, J. Christopher Jones, Dorothea Grubbs, Juanita Frost, Mark Reed, and several great-grandchildren.
A celebration of her life will be held at a later date in Shoals, Indiana with burial in Spring Hill Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association, P. O.
