Vivian Gail Rutherford Lindsey, 81, of Union Point, GA, passed away Friday, July 15, 2022 at her residence. She was born November 22, 1940 in Washington, GA to the late James Thomas Rutherford and Lois Echols Rutherford. She graduated from Union Point High School in 1957 and Perry Business School in 1962. On August 2, 1963, she married Eugene Walter Lindsey. For many years she worked at Union Manufacturing in Union Point which later became Chipman Union where she worked as manager of Human Resources. She also worked at Athens Tech for the Department of Labor. Gail was a member of the First Baptist Church in Union Point where she taught Sunday school, sang in the choir and was church treasurer.
In addition to her parents, Tom and Lois Rutherford, she was preceded in death by an infant brother on April 3, 1945; and an infant sister on January 10, 1938. Survivors include her husband Gene of Union Point, GA; two daughters, Kathi Smoker and husband Brian and Donna Edwards and husband Benjie; a son, Dee Lindsey and wife Susan; eight grandchildren, Trae Adams and wife Elenn, Kassi Adams, Brice Smoker, Bear Smoker, Britt Callaway and husband Jason, B. J. Edwards, Brooke Cleveland and husband Clay and Elliott Lindsey; six great grandchildren, Conor Adams, Mara Adams, Waylon Callaway, Wesleigh Callaway, Taylor Cleveland and Turner Cleveland and a number of other relatives and friends.
Funeral Services will be held Monday, July 18, 2022, at 11:00 a.m. at the First Baptist Church in Union Point with Rev. Alec Ward officiating. Interment will follow in Greenlawn Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers are Lane Smith, Martin Smith, Keith Lindsey, Ken West, Chris West, Paul Jackson and Tommy Swann. The family will receive friends Sunday afternoon from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. at McCommons Funeral Home.
