Francis Lee Byce, Sr.  
 
Francis Lee Byce, Sr. of Greensboro, GA, died Wednesday, September 16, 2015 at St. Mary’s Good Samaritan Hospital in Greensboro at the age of 85.  A lifelong resident of Greensboro, Francis was born on January 5, 1930 to the late Deforest Heyward Byce, Sr. and Daisy Lee Satterfield Byce.  He attended school in Penfield and graduated from Greensboro High School in 1948.  On November 14, 1952 he married the former Christine Cook of White Plains, GA.  He joined the United States Navy in 1948 and was a veteran of the Korean War.  He retired from Georgia Kraft after 34 years and then worked for Dixie Wood for 14 years.  His latest job was with Farmers Feed and Seed which he loved dearly.  Francis enjoyed meeting and greeting people, talking about farming, gardening and many other topics.  During his spare time he stayed busy gardening and sharing vegetables with his friends, enjoying tractors, and spending time with his family, grandchildren and great grandchildren.  He was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Greensboro where he served on the Administrative Board.  He also served on the Board of Trustees at Nathanael Greene Academy.

In addition to his wife of 62 years, Christine Byce of Greensboro, GA, he is survived by a son, Lee Byce and wife Pam of Greensboro; a daughter, Beth Byce Williams and husband Chuck of Watkinsville; grandchildren, Jordan Byce and wife Kristin of Watkinsville and Brooke Byce Marshall and husband Brett of Cordele; great grandchildren, Cason Byce and Blakely Marshall; nephews, other relatives and many friends. He was preceded in death by his siblings, Mills M. Byce, Deforest Heyward Byce, Jr., James Linton Byce, Mary Sue Byce Leverette and Murell Wesley Byce, Sr.

Funeral Service will be held Friday, September 18, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. at McCommons Chapel, 109 W. Broad Street, Greensboro, GA 30642 with Rev. Richard Chewning and Rev. Wayne Usry officiating.  The family will receive friends Thursday from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at McCommons Funeral Home.  Interment will follow in the White Plains Baptist Church Cemetery, 1020 Main Street W., White Plains, GA 30678.  Serving as pallbearers are Dwight Winslett, Ken Cawthon, Rodney White, Benji Boswell, Bill Coleman, Gentry Strickland, Charles Crumbley and Allen Askew.  Honorary pallbearers are Jimmy Burt, Billy Callaway, Wayne Sisson, Hot Boswell, Wayne Taylor, Bill Adams, Fred Bright, Roger West, Gene Lindsey, Robert Evans, Eddy Thaxton, Eric Ashley, Jerry Hatton, Chris Houston, Kenneth Moore, John Smith, Johnny Cowan, Andrew Boswell, Jack Bear and Russell McCain.  In Lieu of flowers, please make donations to the White Plains Baptist Church Maintenance Fund, P.
