Elizabeth Barry Hamby, affectionately known to family and friends as “Libby,” of Athens, GA, passed away on Thursday, September 11, 2025, at the age of 80 at Dunwoody Health and Rehab. She was born in Athens, GA, on November 1, 1944, and was the daughter of the late John Fred Barry, Jr., and Beatrice Mullins Barry. Libby was a graduate of Athens High School and attended Athens Technical School. Throughout her career, she worked for Davison’s as a sales associate, and retired from Southern Bell Company. She was a member of Prince Avenue Baptist Church.
Libby is survived by her daughter, Lisa (Maninder) Chawla of Suwanee, GA; grandson, Julian Chawla of Atlanta, GA; sister, Martha Veale (Greg) of Athens GA; along with other relatives and friends. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Ann Hutto.
A graveside service will be held on Saturday, September 27, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. at Greenview Cemetery, Memorial Drive, Greensboro, GA 30642, with Reverend Alec Ward officiating. The family will be available to receive visitors beginning at 9:30 a.m. Memorial contributions may be made to an organization of your choice supporting mental health and brain research.
