Everette Copeland Obituary

Everette Donald Copeland, age 88, of Greensboro, GA passed away peacefully Tuesday, September 3, 2024, at his home surrounded by family. He was born April 23, 1936, in Sandy Springs, GA, one of six children of the late John Curtis Copeland, Sr. and Evelyn Amerson Copeland. Everette was raised in Sandy Springs, GA and attended North Fulton and graduated from O’Keefe High School. While at O’Keefe High School he began working at Southern Bell, now AT&T, in the mailroom.

On June 3, 1955, he married Germaine Griffin of Marietta, GA. After the birth of their third child and while still working full-time at Southern Bell, he attended Southern Technical College where he earned an engineering degree. In his 35 years at Southern Bell, he was a successful and well-respected engineer and manager. Upon retiring from there, he began a second career in sales and marketing with Northern Telecom, now Nortel, where he retired after 12 years. He also served his country in the Army Reserves.

Everette was truly of the Greatest Generation - his word was his bond, his work ethic was impeccable, and he could work circles around men many years younger than him. Everette’s family came first in his life. His mission was to provide for his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. If anyone whether family, friend or stranger needed anything, he was there to help. Everette loved working with his hands. He was tenacious and determined to fix anything long before YouTube existed. Everette played semi-pro baseball and loved all sports.

Everette and Germaine are members of Grace Fellowship Church where he faithfully served. A church member described Everette as a quiet, gentle giant who always had a smile on his face. He honored God with the way he lived his life and exemplified Proverbs 20:7 (AMP) “The righteous man who walks in integrity and lives life in accord with his [godly] beliefs— How blessed [happy and spiritually secure] are his children after him [who have his example to follow].” His actions always spoke louder than his words.

Everette and Germaine retired to Lake Oconee in 2007 where he spent many happy hours with family and friends. In June, they celebrated 69 years of marriage.

Everette is survived by his wife, Germaine Copeland of Greensboro, GA; son, David Wayne Copeland; daughters, Donna Renee’ Houser (Kevin), Teresa Dawn Bone and Patricia Lynn

Sutton; brother, William Stanley Copeland (Deborah); grandchildren, Matthew, Joe, Rachel, Leah, Martha Jean, Christopher, Chandler Grace, Griffin, Emma Beam, Katherine and Luke; nineteen great-grandchildren and three great-great grandchildren along with many friends and family. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his siblings, Shirley Ann Whitfield, John Curtis Copeland, Jr., Cecil Copeland and Kenneth Franklin Copeland.
