Ethel (Hawkins) Dooley

Ethel Orthea Hawkins Dooley of Eatonton, GA, age 91, died Wednesday, June 8, 2022 at her residence.  A native of Morgan County, GA born June 17, 1930, she was one of five children of the late Wiley Winburn Hawkins and Clara Mae Teagle Hawkins.  She graduated from Morgan County High School and married Hoyt Clifton Dooley, Jr. of Greensboro.  She worked in Madison, GA as a telephone operator during the early days of telephone service until she began raising her children. She also assisted her husband in the operation of the Madison Theater until it’s closing in the early 70’s.  She also drove a school bus and various other jobs until they moved to Nashville, TN to be close to their son.  While in Nashville she worked at Barbara Mandrell’s Gift Shop, Opryland and The Roy Acuff Theater. A few years after the passing of her husband she returned to Madison in 2013.  She always stayed busy doing crafts or China painting. She was a loyal member of Beacon Heights Baptist Church. She resided in the Madison Health & Rehab Nursing Home for about 4 years where she participated in the Ms. Georgia Health Care Association Pageant. Her last few months were spent residing in her son’s home in Eatonton, GA.

Survivors include her son and his wife, Hoyt Clifton Dooley III and Vicki of Eatonton, GA; daughter, Mary Dooley of Lincolnton, NC; grandchildren, Christina, Nancy and Regina; and numerous great grandchildren and nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her siblings, Annie Lois Hawkins, Ruth Evelyn Hawkins Cargile, Wallace Winburn Hawkins, and Teagle Augustus Hawkins.

Graveside Services will be Saturday, June 11, 2022 at 2:00 p. m. at Greensboro City Cemetery, Memorial Drive, Greensboro, GA 30642 with Rev. Jeff Hicks officiating.  The family will receive friends Saturday from 12:30 p.m. until time for the service at McCommons Funeral Home.  Memorials may be made to the Beacon Heights Baptist Church sound room, 1051 Carmichael RD, Madison, GA 30650.  McCommons Funeral Home, 109 W.
