Ernest King McClain

Ernest King “Ernie” McClain, age 73, of White Plains passed away Wednesday, July 19, 2023, at Emory University Hospital in Atlanta.  A native of Ocala, Florida, Ernie was the son of the late Cecil Lloyd McClain and Berta Marguerite Lyles McClain.  He was born September 23, 1949 and attained an associate degree in chemistry.  Ernie and Linda Mary Slack were married on May 29, 2003, in Elk, California and recently celebrated their 20th anniversary. Ernie had lived in Greene County for forty-three years.  During this time, he was the owner and operator of Granite Shoals Marina retiring in 2002.  He was an avid fisherman, a passionate cook, a master gardener, and had a love for all things outdoors. 

Ernie is survived by his wife Linda Mary Slack McClain; children, Stevie Lyles Plew and Patrick Plew of Greensboro, GA and Morgan Robert McClain of Eugene, Oregon; sisters, Jane and Jimmy Hamilton of Homosassa, Florida, Wanda and Gordon Ashley of Homosassa Springs, Florida, Cecile and Earl Leatherbarrow of Homosassa, Florida, and Donna Yarnell of Heiskell, TN; grandchildren, Ristan Levi Plew  and Silas Lyles Plew of Greensboro, GA; his beloved dog, Sierra; other relatives and numerous friends.

A Celebration of Ernie’s Life will be held Sunday, July 23, 2023, at 2:00 p.m. with Tom Collier and Mark Gorley officiating at McCommons Chapel, 109 W. Broad Street, Greensboro, GA 30642.  The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.  The family requests any memorials be made to https://castforkids.org/.  McCommons Funeral Home, 109 W.
