Ernest Donald Davenport, age 83, of Union Point, GA passed away Saturday, May 2, 2020 at St. Mary’s Good Samaritan Hospital in Greensboro, GA. Born August 12, 1936 in Blue Ridge, GA in Fannin County he was the son of the late Tate Davenport and Essie Tipton Davenport. He was married to the former Marjorie Odell Chastain who preceded him in death in September of 2018. In 1968 they moved to Greensboro, GA. After their sons were grown they returned to Gainesville where they lived until 1999 and then moved back to Greene County. For 43 years, Ernest worked for Tyson Foods as the Broiler Manager and retired in 1999. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Greensboro, GA. He was also a member of the Greene County Country Club where he enjoyed playing golf.
Survivors include three sons, Kenneth Davenport (Miriam) of White Plains, GA, Gary Davenport (Penny) of Union Point, GA and Darren Davenport (Julie) of Greensboro, GA; sisters, Evelyn Foster and Darlene Jones; seven grandchildren: Kenny Davenport (Renee), Joanie Patrick (Cody), Jennifer Hubbard (Scott), April Rhoades, Lindsey Stone (Keith) Natalie Chastain Davenport and Victoria Davenport; eleven great grandchildren; many friends and other relatives. In addition to his wife, Marjorie Davenport, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Lehman, Lewis and Herbert Davenport.
Graveside Services will be held Monday, May 4, 2020 at 11:00 a.m. at Greenview Cemetery, Memorial Drive, Greensboro, GA 30642 with Rev. Bruce Lovin officiating. The family will have a private visitation at the funeral home. Serving as honorary pallbearers are Cecil Powell, Robbie Chapman, Jeffery Smith, Niles Webb, Ken Cawthon, Andrew Boswell, Richard Dingler, Roger Webb and Jimmy Shelton.
