Emmett Britton “Brit” Spann lll, of Greensboro, GA passed away Sunday morning, December 31, 2023 at St. Mary’s Good Samaritan Hospital in Greensboro. He was 84. Brit was born in Orlando, Florida on July 18, 1939 to the late Emmett Britton Spann Jr. and Marguerite Williamson Spann. Brit spent his youth in Darien and McRae. Brit received his undergraduate degree from Presbyterian College and a masters in math from Clemson University. He then embarked on a career as a system engineer with IBM and Teradata Corporations. He married Mary Elizabeth Stiles on February 25, 1968, and they raised their family in Knoxville, TN before moving to Atlanta. In 2002, they moved to The Landing at Lake Oconee where they enjoyed the last 21 years in retirement. Brit was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Greensboro, GA where he sang in the choir for a number of years. He also sang with the Reynolds Chorus, was an avid reader, enjoyed golfing, and volunteering with Habitat for Humanity.
Brit is survived by his loving wife of nearly 56 years, Mary Stiles Spann; four sons, Britton Spann (Wrenn) of Knoxville, TN, Stephen Spann (Melissa) of Marietta, GA, Michael Spann (Amy) of Johns Creek, GA, and Jim Spann of Marietta, GA; a brother, Bob Spann of Midvillle, GA; six grandchildren, Warren, Will, Katelyn, Britton, Carter and Ava; other relatives and many friends.
