Elizabeth Jean Roydhouse of Greensboro, GA passed away Wednesday, August 2, 2023, at the age of 92 at The Glen at Lake Oconee Village. Betty as she was called by her many friends was born in Pensacola, Florida on August 13, 1930 to the late Myrtle McAleavy.
Betty was raised in Jacksonville, FL where she graduated from Andrew Jackson High School. She was a longtime member of Merrill Road Community Church where she was involved in many activities and services. In her spare time she loved to bowl and was on multiple leagues. Betty loved football and during that season on Saturdays she would be in Gainesville cheering on the Gators at the University of Florida. Sundays after church, she could be found at the Gator Bowl in Jacksonville rooting on the Jacksonville Jaguars. Upon retiring from Southern Wine and Spirits after 25 years as a bookkeeper, she enjoyed traveling, the majority of the time with her best friend Jeanette Bryant.
In 2002 Betty moved to Lake Wylie, SC near her son Tom. She assisted in her church’s office several days a week at Tega Cay Community Church. In 2012 she moved from Lake Wylie, SC to Lawrenceville, GA. Due to health reasons she moved to The Glen five years ago. Family was very important to her. She loved spending time with them and attending her great grandchildren’s many events. She will be remembered for her contagious snorting laugh, quick sense of humor, beautiful smile, love and kindness.
Survivors include her children, Tommy Roydhouse and his wife Lynda of Greensboro, GA, Susan Davis of Ft. Mill, SC and Michael Roydhouse and his wife Dana of Lakeland, FL; grandchildren, Pam Freeman and her husband Brian, Paula Thomas and Patti Robison and her husband Mike; and nine great grandchildren along with many friends.
A private funeral service for the family will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, August 5, 2023, at McCommons Chapel, 109 W. Broad Street, Greensboro, GA 30642 with Rev. Chris Laskey officiating. Any memorials may be made to Alzheimer’s Association - Georgia Chapter, 41 Perimeter Center East, Suite 550, Atlanta, GA 30346. McCommons Funeral Home, 109 W.
