Elizabeth (Betsy) Frances Beckemeyer

Elizabeth Frances Beckemeyer of Greensboro Georgia died November 9, 2025. A retired Professor of Biology with Georgia State University, she earned a PhD in Biology from the University of North Carolina Chapel Hill, a Master of Science in Entomology from the University of Georgia, a Master of Arts in Zoology from Duke University. Her undergraduate degree was from Georgia Southern University in Biology. She taught for many years at the three campuses of Georgia Perimeter College.

She was an active member of the Entomological Society of America. For years she was on the governing board and started the women’s breakfast group. She was a Science, Engineering, and Diplomacy Fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science.

Betsy was born June 26, 1949 in Evanston, Illinois to Delmont and Frances Rentz Howell Beckemeyer. The family moved to Atlanta when she was two years old where she grew up except for a year and a half in Louisville Kentucky. She attended Garden Hills Elementary,  D. F. McClatchey Elementary and W.F. Dykes High School.

She is survived by her siblings, Bill (Sherry), Nancy, and Jim (Michelle) Beckemeyer, five nieces and nephews and seven great nieces and nephews and many wonderful cousins.

Her cremains will be interred during a private gathering at the family plot in Oconee Hill Cemetery in Athens Georgia. She suffered from spinal psoriatic arthritis for twenty years.
