Elizabeth Gorman Obituary

Elizabeth Gardner Gorman, 96, of Greensboro, Georgia died peacefully at Harbor Grace Hospice in Atlanta on January 2, 2023.

She will be remembered for her optimism and generosity, her faith, and her devotion to family. Elizabeth was born in Atlanta on April 19th,1926 to Lola Ray Gardner and Samuel Aurelian Gardner, Sr. In childhood, Elizabeth lived in Gwinnett attending the historical Mechanicsville School. She also lived in Decatur and Brookhaven, in DeKalb County and attended Decatur Girls High and Chamblee High School, graduating in 1944. There she met Lawrence Irby Gorman who joined the Navy to serve in WWII. Upon his return they were married in 1946. Thereafter they had residence in Brookhaven and Chamblee, GA, Glenview Naval Air Station, Glenview,IL and Dunwoody, GA. At retirement they moved to Lake Oconee in Greensboro, GA. Elizabeth was a member of Walker Methodist Church, Greensboro, GA Previously she was a long standing member of Winter’s Chapel Methodist Church, Dunwoody, GA. Winter’s Chapel was a special spiritual community of tightly knit families with long ties to the area and each other. She was a wonderful mother; loving, patient, and kind, and always made excellent times for her children. She was active in PTA, womens’ bowling leagues, an excellent cook and homemaker. Elizabeth was eager to share her home with others; being an outstanding hostess. All were lucky to have dined at her table and holidays were a special joy! She enjoyed boating, fishing, and outings with her husband and neighbors of the Deerfield Community on Lake Oconee. “Liz’s” friends were many. They always mention her easy Southern manner, humor, and her gracious smile. She made friends for life; loyalty being a most valued asset.

Elizabeth is preceded in death by her husband of seventy years, Lawrence Irby Gorman, her parents and her brother Samuel Aurelian Gardner, Jr. She is survived by three daughters Sharon Gorman-McCall and husband Hubert L. McCall of Lilburn, GA, Deborah Wells and stepson Jason Wells of Ocracoke, NC, and Peggy Gorman and Mike Searles of Greensboro, GA. Additionally; many loving nieces and nephews and relatives.

A private graveside service was held at Arlington Memorial Park, Sandy Springs, GA on Monday, January 9th, 2023.
