Elaine Marks Obituary

Elaine Ann O’Neal Marks of Vidalia, Georgia, passed away on Sunday, September 7, 2025, at her daughter’s residence surrounded by loved ones. She was 78 years old. Born on September 8, 1946, in Atlanta, Georgia, she was the daughter of the late Lee Locket O’Neal and Winifred Bernhardt O’Neal. She lived a life rich in love, strength, and kindness. Elaine was raised in Greensboro and graduated from Greensboro High School, where she participated as a cheerleader and played basketball, before attending Georgia College in Milledgeville. After college she traveled with mission trips all over the world with her friends from Greensboro. She worked early in life as a civilian accountant for the military and even turned down offers to work at the FBI. She lived a full life and was loved by all. She worked as a claims representative for the Social Security Administration for 30+ years in Vidalia, GA. Elaine enjoyed a variety of interests, but her biggest satisfaction was being a dedicated and selfless mother to all of her children, grandchildren, cousins and recent great grandchildren. She gave her heart to everyone she met though. She also had a special love for her cats.  Elaine was a member of the First Methodist Church of Greensboro and later the First Methodist Church of Vidalia.
Her survivors include her daughter, Stephanie Poole of Uvalda, GA; her son, Paul Marks of Odessa, FL; seven grandchildren: Hunter Poole and Erika Poole, both of Vidalia, GA; Trevor Poole of Cedar Crossing, GA; Ashton Marks-Strnad of Odessa, FL; Hunter Strnad of Tarpon Springs, FL; Morganne Moore of Swainsboro, GA; and Madison Collins of Statesboro, GA; three great-grandchildren: Weston Collins and Brantley Collins, both of Ailey, Ga; Ivey Moore of Swainsboro, Ga. Along with many other relatives and many friends. All of whom carry her legacy in their hearts and lives. She was more than a mother and a grandmother; she was a best friend, a safe place, and a source of comfort and light to everyone who knew her. She was preceded in death by her sister, Charlene O’Neal Thompson.
