Edward Dean Lewis

Edward Dean Lewis, affectionately known as “Woot,” and also by the nicknames “Uncle Buddy” and “Snake Killer,” of White Plains, GA, passed away on Saturday, April 4, 2026, at the age of 76. He died peacefully at Sparta Health and Rehabilitation, surrounded by his loving family.

Born on June 28, 1949, in Greensboro, GA, Woot was the son of the late Carribel Newton Lewis and Walter “Sonny” Lewis. He was a proud 1968 graduate of Greene County High School. Throughout his career, Woot worked in various roles, including maintenance at Enterprise Aluminum, production for Louisiana Pacific, and as an assembler at Sparta Furniture Plant. He was a faithful member of White Plains Baptist Church. In his leisure time, Woot enjoyed watching game shows and going out to eat, especially Dairy Queen.

Woot was preceded in death by his wife, Linda Jean Robertson Lewis; his brother, Walter “Timmy” Lewis, Jr.; and his sister, Evelyn Smith. He is survived by his brother, Thomas “Wildman” Clifford Lewis of White Plains, GA; his sister, Kathy Edwards of Siloam, GA; and a number of nieces and nephews: Dean Edwards, Jeanette Whitlow, Karen Grant, Jamie Lewis, Timmy Lewis, Matt Lewis, Bobby Smith, Tina Belvin, and Jeff Smith, as well as many other relatives and friends.

A service to celebrate Edward's life will be held by his family on Wednesday, April 8, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at White Plains Baptist Church, 1020 Main Street, White Plains, GA.
