Edith Lewis Barnhart, age 99, of Union Point, GA, died on Monday, February 13, 2023 at Legacy Health and Rehabilitation in Greensboro, GA. Born in Powelton, GA, on February 10, 1924 she was one of nine children born to the late Tom Jefferson and Pearl Darden Lewis, all of whom predeceased her. Growing up she lived in Crawfordville, High Point, NC and later move back to Union Point. She graduated from Union Point High School. On April 10, 1942, she married Kelsey Barnhart. Edith worked as a seamstress for Hometown Manufacturing in Greensboro retiring in the early eighties. As a member of the First Baptist Church of Union Point, she helped with all aspects of the church and enjoyed listening to the sermons on the radio when she was not able to attend anymore. Her favorite things to do were shopping and having coffee with her good friends.
In addition to her husband, Kelsey Barnhart, and her only son, Randy Barnhart, she was preceded in death by her siblings, Edna Pittard, Carlton Lewis, Agnes Grogan, Viola Stewart, Inez Wray, Morris Lewis, Clarice Lewis and Willie Mae English. She is survived by two grandchildren, Ellen Davis (Shane) and William “Jamie” Barnhart (Mandy); daughter-in-law, Lisa Barnhart; two great grandchildren, Zoey Brock and Abby Barnhart; and many other relatives and friends.
Graveside Services will be held Saturday, February 18, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. at Penfield Cemetery, 1211 Cemetery Road, Penfield, GA 30669 with Rev. Marc Lhowe officiating. The family will receive friends Saturday morning from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. at McCommons Funeral Home.
