Douglas Colin Tutcher, age 79, passed away on December 7th, 2022 at his Lake Sinclair home. He was the husband of Linda Sue Tutcher. They shared 56 beautiful years of marriage.
Born in Douglas County Kansas, he was the son of Ernest and Margaret Tutcher. He graduated from Bainbridge High School in 1961. He joined the Air Force on January 2, 1962 and proudly served for 22 years. He began his Air Force career at Lackland Air Force Base where he attended basic training. He was stationed at Keesler Air Force Base where he began his career in electronics. He studied Navigation Systems for aircraft at Eglin Air Force Base in Florida. He was an instructor for the Air Force from 1964-1967. He was stationed in Thailand for a year as a Navigation System Repairman in the war zone. He was awarded a Bronze Star for his service. He returned home to the United States and continued instructing for 3 years. He was then stationed in Hawaii as an inspection officer. After 3 years, he was stationed at Robins Air Force Base as a Program Manager for 4 years. He retired from active service in the Air Force after 22 years. From there, Doug went on to lead several critical defense projects as a Program Manager at Hercules for 10 years.
After a successful and celebrated career, Doug happily transitioned to retired life at his lake house. He was a member of Christ Our King and Savior Catholic Church where he was active in many ministries. He enjoyed fishing, gardening, and being a daddy and granddaddy. He will be remembered for his beautiful gardens, fish fries and his story telling.
He is survived by Linda Sue, his beautiful bride of 56 years, his daughters and son-in-laws Jennie and Erik Evert and Leigh and Jason Smith. Grandchildren – Samantha and Jonathon Ramey, Andrew Evert, Tyler and Rachel Smith, Alex Evert, and Lacy and Will Haynes. Great-granddaughter - Emma Ramey. He is predeceased by his parents and 2 brothers.
The viewing will be held from 4:00PM to 6:00PM on Sunday December 11th, 2022 at McCommons Funeral Home. The funeral service will be held on Monday December 12th, 2022 at 11:00AM at Christ Our King and Savior Catholic Church. Interment will be at the Andersonville National Cemetery on Tuesday December 13th, 2022 at 12:00PM.
