Douglas H. Purdie of Christian City, formerly of East Point, joined the Church Triumphant on April 17, 2006. He was born October 27, 1916 to Scottish immigrants, William James Purdie and Charlotte Taylor Purdie in Harrison, New Jersey. A World War II Navy Seabee Veteran serving in the South Pacific, Mr. Purdie was a lifetime member, Elder, and Sunday School Teacher of the East Point Presbyterian Church and a Charter Member of the East Point Historical Society. In 1941 he started work with the Fulton County School System serving in various positions as teacher, counselor, and principal at Russell High School and at Hapeville High School. He concluded his career in Counseling Services at the Administration Office in 1980. An avid nature lover, he hiked the southern part of the Appalachian Trail, a love he shared with church groups and his Boy Scout Troop.

He is preceded in death by his siblings, Hazel Purdie, Alec Purdie, Kenneth Purdie and Charlotte Purdie Boggus. He is survived by his wife of nearly 67 years, Ethelyn Boswell Purdie; his daughters, Lyn Purdie and Laura Gettler and her husband Gene; his grandson, Kenneth Douglas Browning and his wife Melisia; his great granddaughters, Taylor and Shae Browning; his brother, William J. Purdie Jr.; his sisters-in-law, Nancy Purdie and Joyce Boswell Harris; and his brothers-in-law, Bob Boggus and Harold Boswell.

The family will receive friends at Carmichael-Hemperley Funeral Home on Wednesday April 19, 2006 from 5:30 to 8:00 p.m. Graveside services will be at noon Thursday, April 20, 2006 at Penfield Cemetery in Penfield, GA. Friends and family will assemble at the cemetery. A memorial Service will be 2:00 p.m. Friday, April 21, 2006 at the East Point Presbyterian Church with Rev. Roosevelt Winfrey and Rev. Allan Purdie officiating. In lieu of flowers, those desiring may make donations to East Point Presbyterian Church, 2810 Church Street, East Point, GA 30344. McCommons Funeral Home, 109 W.
