Dorothy Harriett (McCannon) Wray

Dorothy Harriett McCannon Wray, age 89, of the Bairdstown Community, passed away on Wednesday, November 5, 2025, at her residence surrounded by her loving family. Born in Washington, Georgia, on March 6, 1936, she was the daughter of the late Robert Gilfred and Minnie Turner McCannon. She received her education from Union Point High School. On May 22, 1954, she married George Sylvester “Bud” Wray, who preceded her in death in August 2017 after sixty-three years of marriage. 

For many years, Dorothy was a loop operator for Chipman Union, Inc., in Union Point, Georgia. She was a dedicated member of Bairds Baptist Church in Bairdstown. She greatly valued the time spent with her children and grandchildren and also enjoyed gardening.

Her survivors include her children: Kay Askew of Maxeys, Georgia; Gil Wray (Crickett) of Bairdstown; Elaine Smith of Bairdstown; Joe Wray (Stephanie) of Vesta, Georgia; Brenda Smith (Vincent) of Comer, Georgia; and Tim Wray (Rhonda) of Bairdstown. She also leaves behind a sister, Ann McCannon of Washington, Georgia; a brother, Kenneth McCannon (Pat) of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren; as well as other relatives and friends. Dorothy was preceded in death by her brothers: Robert "Bobby" McCannon, Franklin Joseph McCannon Sr., Fred McCannon, and Harold McCannon.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, November 7, 2025, at 3:00 p.m. at Bairds Baptist Church, located at 42 Bairdstown Loop, Union Point, Georgia, with Reverend Danny Holdridge officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church. Pallbearers will be her beloved sons and grandsons.
