Dorothy Merritt Obituary

Dorothy Mathews Merritt, 75, of Siloam, GA died Saturday, May 31, 2003 at her home. A native of Fulton County, she was born March 8, 1928 to the late Rufus B. Mathews and Nellie Tidwell Mathews. She graduated from Fulton County High School and married in 1946. She started as a teller with C&S Bank in Atlanta before transferring to C&S Bank in Athens. Later she was the medical records librarian at Minnie G. Boswell Memorial Hospital for a number of years. After having their son, "Chip", she retired to be a house wife and partnered with her husband to operate a dairy farm.

She is survived by her husband William B. "Billy" Merritt Sr. of Siloam, GA; and one son, William B. "Chip" Merritt, Jr. She was preceded in death by her brother Robert "Bob" Mathews.

Memorial Services will be held Saturday, June 7, 2003 at 11:00 a.m. at Siloam United Methodist Church with Rev. Les Cowart and Rev. Lee Almy officiating. The family requests that any memorials be made to the Siloam United Methodist Church, 3640 Hwy. 15 S., Greensboro, GA 30642 or the American Cancer Society, 1060 Gaines School Road, Suite B-2, Athens, GA 30605. The family will receive friends from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Friday night at the funeral home. McCommons Funeral Home, 109 W. Broad St., Greensboro, GA, (706) 453-2626, is in charge of arrangements.
