Dorothy Johnson Obituary

Dorothy Alvina Meissner Johnson of Greensboro, Georgia, passed away at her residence surrounded by loved ones on Sunday, April 27, 2025. She was born on March 26, 1937, in Caledonia, Wisconsin, and was the daughter of the late Simon Meissner and Regina Drydyk Meissner. On September 21, 1974, she married Dale William Johnson. Dorothy graduated from St. Catherine's High School in Racine, Wisconsin, in 1955 and served as a Medical Mission Sister from 1955 to 1960. She then graduated from George Washington University School of Pharmacy in 1963. She worked in Ghana, West Africa, as a hospital pharmacist from 1963 to 1973, and was later employed by Walgreens until 1975. Having resided in Greensboro for twenty-six years, they previously lived in Greendale, Wisconsin. During her time in Greendale, she served as President of the Greendale High School PTA. Her favorite hobbies included golf and tennis. She was a member of Christ Our King and Savior Catholic Church. In addition to being a wonderful wife and mother, she deeply cherished her grandchildren.  

Survivors include her husband of fifty years, Dale, of Greensboro; daughters Julie Ake, M.D., and her husband Brigadier General Adam Ake of Laurel, Maryland; Diane Castiglione and her husband Andrew of Seabrook, Texas; and Linda Marcus and her husband Richard of Cary, North Carolina; sisters Jane Mutchler of McFarland, Wisconsin, and Arlene Lombardi of Mesa, Arizona; brothers Jerome Meissner and his wife Carol of Waukesha, Wisconsin, and Ray Meissner and his wife Gayle of Highlands Ranch, Colorado; grandchildren Elisabeth, Daniel, Emily, and Anneliese Ake, Alyssa, David, and Gabriel Castiglione, and Lyla and Raina Marcus; along with other relatives and many friends. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brothers Simon, Carl, and Richard Meissner, as well as her brothers-in-law Leo Mutchler and Charles Lombardi.  

A Memorial Mass will be held on Saturday, May 17, 2025, at 10:00 a.m. at Christ Our King and Savior Catholic Church, 6341 Lake Oconee Parkway, with Father Adam Blatt officiating. A reception will follow at the church in the Sacred Heart Social Hall. The family will hold a Wake on Friday, May 16, 2025, from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at McCommons Funeral Home Chapel.
