Millicent Doreen Gist O’Neal

Millicent Doreen Gist O’Neal of Siloam, Georgia, crossed over to meet her husband and loved ones on Saturday, September 27, 2014 at 9:30 a.m. at The Magnolia House Senior Living in Conyers after several years of a very difficult disease. She was 87.  Born in Leicester England on January 17, 1927 she was the daughter of the late John Walter Gist and Nora Claydon Gist.  She graduated from Leicester England High School and later married Quinn Alexander O’Neal in September of 1946 after they met during World War II while he was in the 82nd Airborne.  For a while she worked at Thomas Textile, but most of her life she was a homemaker who enjoyed doing for her family and friends.  She was an excellent cook, a great seamstress who could make anything, loved growing flowers and reading. Mrs. Doreen, as others called her, loved her grandchildren and family and will greatly be missed by all.  

She was preceded in death by her husband, Quinn A. O’Neal on May 1, 1991, and siblings, Douglas Gist, Roland Gist, Leslie Gist, Howard Gist, Brenda Gist and Marina Gist.  She is survived by two sons, Terrence John “Terry” O’Neal (Barbara) of Siloam, GA and Michael Alexander “Mike” O’Neal (Gena) of Lexington, GA; two daughters, Tressa Anne O’Neal Godwin of Conyers, GA and Patricia Lillian O’Neal of Maxeys, GA; a sister, Lillian Gist of Leicester, England; 9 grandchildren,  Mark H. O’Neal, Angie O’Neal, T.J. O’Neal, Bonnie E. Ellington, Melanie Peek, Cody Neal Buckland, Kery Buckland, Chey Buckland and Seth Shook; 6 great grandchildren, Cody, Carly, Domonique (Dee Dee), Connor, Alex and Jensen; other relatives and many friends.   

Graveside Services will be held Tuesday, September 30, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. at Siloam Cemetery, Church Street, Siloam, GA with Rev. James Bowen officiating.  The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Monday night at Callaway Funeral Home.    Callaway Funeral Home, 208 N.
