Donald "Don" Nathan Ellis

Donald Nathan “Don” Ellis, age 77, of Greensboro, Georgia passed away Wednesday, February 10, 2021 at St. Mary’s Good Samaritan Hospital in Greensboro.  Born in Camden, NJ on January 5, 1944, he was the son of the late Nathan Price Ellis and Nellie Lois Brock Ellis.  In 1963 he graduated from Union Point High School where he played on the Baseball State Championship Team and played basketball.  After high school he took courses at Georgia State University and the University of Georgia.  He served his country in Vietnam in the United States Army for two years receiving the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, Bronze Star Medal and the Good Conduct Medal. On May 4, 1968 he married the former Elaine Ellis of Greensboro, GA. For a while Don lived in Atlanta where he worked for Delta Airlines.  After returning to Greene County he worked at the Seed Orchard and then became the Plant Manager for Universal Rundle in Union Point, GA. When he retired he continued to support his community and volunteered for the Greene County Chamber of Commerce.  Don enjoyed all kinds of sports such as baseball, softball, and basketball but he especially enjoyed golfing.  Riding motorcycles was also a favorite when he was younger.  He was a Director for the Central and Southern Bank of Greensboro, board member for Boswell Parker Health & Rehab and a member of Bethesda Baptist Church in Union Point. 

He is survived by his wife of fifty-two years, Elaine Ellis of Greensboro, GA; daughter Donna Carol Hardin (Kent) and their son Nicholas Miller Hardin of Melbourne, FL; two sisters, Martha Ellis Copelan (Ray) of Greensboro, GA and Margie Ellis Cronic (Dal) of Melbourne, FL; and a number of other relatives and many friends.  He was preceded in death by his brother, Richard Burton Ellis. 

A Funeral Service for Don will be held, Saturday, February 13, 2021 at 11:00 a.m. at McCommons Chapel, 109 W. Broad Street, Greensboro, GA 30642 with Ray Copelan officiating.  The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 10:00 a.m. until time for the service.  The family requests that any memorials be made to the St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, P.
