Donald Fredrick Wilson

Donald Fredrick Wilson, 77, of Watkinsville, Georgia, passed away peacefully at his home on June 19, 2026.  Born on December 10, 1948, in Athens, Georgia, Donald was the son of the late William Fredrick Wilson and Ethel Mae Wilson. He was also preceded in death by his sister, Jennie Elaine Hayes.

As the son of an Air Force serviceman, Donald spent much of his childhood living in various parts of the country, including Kansas City, Missouri; El Centro, California; and Dayton, Ohio. He graduated from Oconee County High School in 1967 and soon afterward answered the call to serve his country by enlisting in the United States Air Force.  Donald served honorably for 24 years in the Air Force, retiring with the rank of Chief Master Sergeant. During his military career, he served in Korea, Guam, and Europe and faithfully fulfilled his duties during both the Vietnam War and Desert Storm eras. His career reflected the qualities that would define his life: dedication, humility, leadership, and service to others. Following his retirement from the Air Force in 1994, Donald continued serving his community through his work at Athens Regional Hospital, where he worked until 2012.

On January 10, 1970, Donald married the love of his life, Deborah Gale Boswell Wilson. Together they shared more than 56 years of marriage, building a home marked by faith, devotion, laughter, and unwavering commitment to family.  A faithful member of Antioch Christian Church, Donald served as a deacon and demonstrated his faith through a lifetime of service. For Donald, helping others was not simply something one should do—it was his way of life.  Donald was an Eagle Scout and a member of the Order of the Arrow. He remained active throughout his life, enjoying jogging, cycling, listening to Willie Nelson, and serving as a Boy Scout troop leader. While these interests brought him joy, nothing compared to the happiness he found in spending time with his family and especially his grandchildren.

Those who knew Donald remember a good man with a servant's heart. He was generous, hardworking, and always ready with a laugh. He loved each of his children with his whole heart and sacrificed much to provide opportunities and a better life for his family. Whether serving his country, his church, his community, or those he loved most, Donald consistently placed the needs of others before his own.  In 2007, Donald was diagnosed with Parkinson's disease. He faced the challenges of the disease with the same quiet determination and strength that characterized every season of his life.

Donald is survived by his beloved wife, Deborah Gale Wilson; his children, Dianne Marie Wilson and her husband Charlie McCarty, Dennis Brian Wilson and his wife Cori Ann, and Dawn Wilson Welborn and her husband Jeffrey; his grandchildren, Emma Wilson Gauntt (Kaleb), Aubrey Belle Wilson, Luke Jeffrey Welborn, Hannah Kay Wilson, Lila Mae Welborn, and Timothy Thomas Wilson; his sister, Mary Wilson Diletto; his brother, Joe Wilson and his wife, Valerie; his brother-in-law, David Hayes; and many extended family members and friends who will cherish his memory.

A memorial service celebrating Donald's life will be held on Sunday, July 19, 2026, at 2:00 p.m. at Antioch Christian Church. Arrangements are being handled by McCommons Funeral Home of Greensboro. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the youth program at Antioch Christian Church.  Donald's family takes comfort in the legacy he leaves behind—a legacy of faith, service, sacrifice, and love. His example will continue to live on in the lives of his family, the countless people he served, and all who were blessed to know him.
