Donald R. Dennis, Sr

Donald R. Dennis, Sr., age 71, of Greensboro, GA, died Thursday, April 26, 2012 at St. Mary''s Hospice House. Donald was born on March 23, 1941 in Atlanta, GA to the late James Robert Dennis and Daisy Mae Phillips Dennis. He attended Greshamville School and in 1959 graduated from Greensboro High School where he excelled in football, basketball and track. On March 31, 1962 he married the former Hazel Rowe and they just recently celebrated their fiftieth anniversary. His working career began in Atlanta with W. B. Jones Construction and after that he worked for Webb Brothers in Greensboro. In 1967 he began his own business, D D Construction Company. He was a member of New Hope Baptist Church in Greshamville. He was a sports enthusiast and enjoyed horses, fishing, hunting and won several awards in archery. Donald also enjoyed dancing. He was a member of the Lake Oconee Home Builders Association, the NE Georgia Archery League and the General Contractor for Habitat for Humanity.

Survivors include his wife, Hazel Rowe Dennis of Greensboro, GA; three sons, Bobby Dennis and wife Anjee of Greensboro, GA, Billy Dennis and wife Melissa of Cape Coral, FL and Jack Dennis and wife Danna of Greensboro, GA; ten grandchildren, Andrew White, Stephanie White Garcia, Caitlyn Joyce Dennis, Davin Christian Young, Bert Hutchinson Jr., Jackson Thomas Dennis, Lauren Elizabeth Dennis, Sierra Ashlynn Dennis, Abigail Bunch and Ava Grace Dennis; sister-in-law, Nancy Eley; brother-in-law, Eddie Rowe; cousin, Gwen Huff Thompson and husband Gerald; niece, Luan Hardin and husband Terry and their children; a number of other relatives and many friends.

Funeral services will be held, Sunday, April 29, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. at McCommons Chapel with Rev. Mike Pritchett and Rev. Tim Tabler officiating. Serving as pallbearers are Hoke Thomas, Cheyene Wright Bagley, Donald Thomson, Gene Waldrip, Lewis Brown, Charles Crumbley, Cotton Boswell and Terry Burnette. The family requests that any memorials be made to the American Cancer Society, 1684 Barnett Shoals Road, Athens, GA 30605.
