Dock Hammond Shelnutt, Jr., age 77, of White Plains, GA, died Wednesday, September 2, 2020 at Piedmont Athens Regional in Athens. Born in Monroe, GA on June 16, 1943 he was one of six and the only son of the late Dock Hammond Shelnutt, Sr. and Norrine Cantrell Shelnutt. In 1961 he graduated from Greensboro High School and married the former Naomi Moncrief on March 26, 1967. He was the Sawmill Supervisor for the Greensboro Lumber Company and continued to work in the sawmill industry in both Wilkes and Oglethorpe counties for a total of thirty-three years. He proudly served his country for six years in the Georgia National Guard receiving an honorable discharge as Gun Sergeant. When he was younger he always enjoyed having a big garden and seeing how many tools he could fit on a half-ton pickup truck. In Dock's later years he enjoyed being with his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He always referred to them as his greatest treasure on earth. Dock was a member of the Siloam Baptist Church, where he served as chairman of the deacons.
He is survived by his wife of fifty-three years, Naomi Shelnutt of White Plains, GA; two daughters, Dannah Strozier and her husband Steven of Madison, GA and Daphne Kersey of Union Point, GA; a son, Dock Shelnutt III and his wife Sherrer of White Plains, GA; six grandchildren, Caleb Strozier and his wife Adriana, Kyle Strozier, Tylor Strozier, Taylor Strozier, D. J. Shelnutt and his wife Haley and Dalton Shelnutt; great grandchildren, Ryleigh Kate Shelnutt, Ella Grae Shelnutt and Gio Uribe; two sisters, Anne Williamson of Albany, GA and Rhunette Wheeler of North Carolina; other relatives and many friends. He was preceded in death by his sisters, Gloria Strickland, Bobbie Meadows and an infant that died at birth.
Graveside Services will be held on Saturday, September 5, 2020 at 11:00 a.m. at the White Plains Baptist Church Cemetery, 1020 Main Street East, White Plains, GA 30678 with Rev. James Bowen and Rev.
