Dennis "Pokey" Dover

Steven Dennis “Pokey” Dover of Greensboro, GA, passed away Tuesday, April 26, 2022 at Select Specialty Hospital in Augusta, GA at the age of 66.  A lifelong resident of Greene County Pokey was born on July 25, 1955 to the late Vernon Bishop Dover and Winnie Pearl Marcus Dover.  In 1973 he graduated from Nathanael Greene Academy and took further studies at Athens Tech.  On July 22, 1979 he married the former Lynn Turner of Union Point, GA. His working career began at Sweetapple Plastics which later became North American Pipe Corporation where he worked until 2009 after 27 years.  He also worked for Anthony International in Madison, GA as a Quality Control Technician and retired from Bard Manufacturing in Madison, GA.  He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Greensboro.  All of his life he loved and played softball.  He also enjoyed fishing and reading and spending quality time with his grandson Aidan. Pokey was a longtime member of the Greene County Livestock Association. 

His survivors include his wife, Lynn Dover of Greensboro, GA; son, William Turner “Bill” Dover and wife Chris of Greensboro, GA; grandson, Aidan Turner Dover; and brother, Terry Dover; along with many other relatives and friends.  He was preceded in death by his brother Leroy Dover and sisters, Mildred Sanders and Nancy Lowry.

A Graveside Service will be held Sunday, May 1, 2022 at 2:00 p.m. at the Greenlawn Cemetery, Rhodes Street, Union Point, GA 30669 with Rev. Richard Chewning officiating.  The family will receive friends Sunday, May 1, 2022 from 1:00 p.m. until time for the service at Callaway Funeral Home.  Serving as pallbearers are Daniel Strozier, Bobby Morris, Drew Boswell, Jim Thurmond, Charles Crumbley, Doug Higdon, Donald Ogle, Bayne Cheeley, and Kevin Nichols.  Any memorials may be made to Nathanael Greene Academy, P.
