Dennis "Denny" McElroy

Dennis “Denny” McElroy passed away on Sunday, July 13, 2025, at his residence. Denny was born on October 24, 1949, as one of thirteen children. He was born and raised in Darby, PA in Delaware County to the late Peter Joseph McElroy and Mary Anne Anderson McElroy. He earned his Bachelor's Degree from Penn Morton College, now known as Widener University. On January 5, 1974, he married the former Diane Elizabeth Barnes. Denny had a successful career with Lowe’s Home Improvement, serving as their Director of Outbound Traffic, and retired in July 2005. After relocating from Lake Norman in Troutman, NC, he and his wife moved to the Waterfront on Lake Oconee in Eatonton, GA, five years ago. He was a member of the Roman Catholic faith. An avid athlete, he enjoyed cross country, track, water skiing and snow skiing, tennis, and swimming. He was also a member of the Thunderbird Club. Denny enjoyed helping others with his handyman expertise. 

He is survived by his wife, Diane, of Eatonton, GA; his daughters, Arlene Doherty Chandler (Scott) of Madison, GA; Michelle Doherty Jaye of Conover, NC; and Alicia McElroy Tomlinson (Brian) of Watkinsville, GA; and grandchildren, Brandon Chandler of Madison, GA; Bridget Chandler of Seattle, WA; Cohen, Bailey, and Pirie Tomlinson of Watkinsville, GA; his sisters, Catherine, Francis, Maureen, Ailean, Patricia, Anne, and Maryanne; his brother John McElroy; and many beloved nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by his sister, Rosemary, and brothers, Peter, Lawrence, and Bernard McElroy.

The family will hold a memorial service at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that memorial contributions be made to Putnam Reads, P.O. Box 4283, Eatonton, GA 31024.
