Dennis Quigley Obituary

Dennis Carl Quigley died at home April 27, 2017 after months of care by Connie Tippett, RN, of Compassionate Care Hospice, and his wife Janet.  His friends and neighbors were truly supportive and continued to benefit from his wit and humor.

Dennis was born in Copaigue, New York, on Nov. 11, 1944, to Laura Smith Quigley and Donald Earl Quigley.  He lived with his parents, siblings, and extended family, including 13 cousins, in Massapequa, Long Island until his family moved to Princeton, New Jersey (and the Giants moved to San Francisco; his Uncle John Schwartz was manager of the farm teams.) Dennis loved living in the Griggstown community where he and friends biked, played baseball, and fished in the canal.  He recently attended a reunion in Griggstown  and helped organize a  journal of adventures and memories written by former residents.

After graduating Princeton High in 1962, he attended Wilkes College from which he received a BA degree in 1966.  He entered the U.S. Army in 1968 and was assgned to Artillery Division in Ft. Sill, OK.  While serving with First Cavalry in Vietnam , he was awarded the Bronze Star with Oak Leaf Cluster for “meritorious achievement in ground operations against hostile forces.”

Dennis entered the Terry School of Business at the University of Georgia, 1972, in Athens, GA where he married Janet Deal, a pharmacist, from Lenoir, NC. After obtaining his MBA in 1974, Dennis worked in cost accounting until joining Coopers and Lybrand in Atlanta, GA.    He later worked in financial consulting for Oracle, IBM, and Bearing Point before retiring to Skidaway Island, Savannah, GA.  There he enjoyed golf, joined the Rotary Club, and served with Janet on medical misssions to Guatemala for Faith in Practice.  In Savannah Dennis became Resource Coordinator for Wesley Community Centers, his favorite job of his career.  He spoke to Methodist congregations in the area and held fund raisers for the Center.

In 2009 Dennis and Janet moved to Reynolds Landing to be closer to their daughter Reagan and her husband Roy Ayiteyfio, who reside in Atlanta. There he enjoyed golf, reading, and following politics and the financial world.  He regarded the Landing community as the most enjoyable since leaving Griggstown! And he developed close relations with his golfing buddies and other within the community.

Dennis is survived by his wife Janet, who is extremely happy to have had several months of love and happiness with him after his diagnosis.  Dennis continued to have a positive outlook and accepted his fate with grace.  His surviving family includes his daughter Reagan, who shared so much with her father, her husband Roy Ayiteyfio, and their daughters Aerin Sydney (7) and Avery Marie (4).  Dennis was preceded in death by his daughter Erin Elizabeth in 2003.

Other surviving family members are siblings Donna DeGaetani, Peter Quigley (wife Pat), Kim Quigley-Stepanik (husband Ken), Sisters-in-law Magaret Elizabeth McRary (husband Billy) and Barbara Goldenberg (husband Allen).  Sister-in-law Sylvia Jean Deal passed in 2014.  Surviving nieces are Kerry Rutkiewicz, Laura Stepanik, Bobbi Daye Wiechers, and Amanda Brown. Nephews are Richard Quigley, Zach and Eli Stepanik, Jeb and William McRary, and Jonathan Duncan.
