Dennis Delbert “Smiley” Arthur of Macon, GA, formerly of Greene County, died on Tuesday, November 26, 2013, at the age of 66 at The Medical Center of Central Georgia in Macon. Born in Gainesville, GA on August 2, 1947, he was the son of Beulah Jones Arthur of Greensboro, GA and the late Delbert Mosley Arthur. He graduated from Union Point High School, where he excelled in basketball and baseball. Smiley served in the United States Air Force for four years with one year spent in Vietnam. He married the former Dorothy Louise McClendon on November 30, 1968 and they have lived in Macon since 1989. For thirty years he worked as a construction electrician for Star Electric in Macon, GA retiring in 2012. He enjoyed woodworking, writing letters to the Macon Telegraph editor and joking around with his family and friends.
In addition to his mother, Beulah Arthur of Greensboro, GA, Smiley is survived by his wife of nearly forty-five years, Louise McClendon Arthur of Macon, GA; three daughters, Pam Lavoie of Pittsburgh, PA, Rachel Arthur of Greensboro, GA and Melissa Adriance of Macon, GA; sister, Rachel Beard of Union Point, GA; brother, Thomas Vern “Shorty” Arthur and his wife Bonnie of the Veazey Community; six grandchildren, Caleb Manago, Tre’ Gresham, Amanda Hattaway, Kyle Adriance, Chelsea Hattaway and Elizabeth Adriance; three great grandchildren, Cohen Lowery, Aiden Yearwood and Savannah Adriance; a number of other relatives and many friends.
Memorial Services will be held Saturday, November 30, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. at McCommons Chapel in Greensboro, GA with Rev. Jason McClendon officiating. The family will receive friends Saturday from 12:00 p.m. until time for the service at McCommons Funeral Home. McCommons Funeral Home, 109 W.
