Dean Copelan Obituary

Dean Hill Copelan of Greshamville, GA, died on Thursday, April 5, 2018 at the age of 88 years.  Born on November 15, 1929, in Eatonton, GA, she was one of ten children born to the late Thomas Jackson Hill and Fannie Mae Newman Hill.  She graduated from Putnam County High School and married George Emory Copelan on March 22, 1946.  She was a homemaker who was very involved in raising her three sons and helping her husband on the farm.  She was a member and past director of the Greene County Farm Bureau.  Dean was a  longtime member of Fork Chapel United Methodist Church and the United Methodist Women.

Dean was loyal to her church, and always enjoyed helping the ladies of Meadowcrest. She won several awards for her homemade cherry ice cream. However, she loved cooking for her family most of all. In her earlier years, she enjoyed traveling with her husband and friends, and more recently loved puzzles and playing cards and SkipBo with her friends. Christmas was always her favorite time of the year, and she loved buying presents for her family.

In addition to her husband, Emory Copelan, she was also preceded in death by all of her siblings, Clyde Hill, Lura Hill, Ruth Huff, Ann Gregory, Billy Hill, Johnny Hill, Howard Hill, Jim Hill and a baby that died at birth.  Dean is survived by three sons, George Copelan and wife Nancy of Greensboro, GA, Wynn Copelan and wife Janet of the Greshamville Community and Jackie Copelan of the Greshamville Community; eight grandchildren, Tori Chillemi (Tommy), Todd Copelan (Julie), James Copelan (Rocio), Wendy McDowell (David), Craig Copelan (Erin), Mitchell Copelan (Daniela), Jennie Sarkin and Erica Philyaw; great grandchildren, Thomas and Hudson Chillemi, Graham McDowell, Lily Beth Copelan, Emory and Mia Copelan, Mason and Cohen Sarkin, Chapel Philyaw, Olivia Copelan and Penelope Copelan; countless nieces and nephews; and many friends, including the ones she made most recently with the loving staff of Savannah Court.
