Davis Kilstofte Mortensen, age 92, of Greensboro, GA, went to be with his Lord and Savior on July 6, 2024, welcomed to Heaven with “Well done, my good and faithful servant.”
Davis was born in Charles City, Iowa, on April 25, 1932, son of the late Ejner Martinus and Marie Kilstofte Mortensen. He celebrated his first birthday as the family moved to Harleston, MS, and settled in the Danish-American community that would become Granly. The family moved to Moss Point, MS, in 1939, where he would grow up and graduate from Moss Point High School in 1950. He proudly served on active duty in the United States Army from 1950 to 1952, and in the Mississippi National Guard from 1952 until an honorable discharge in 1955 at the rank of Sergeant First Class. He was a graduate of Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College and earned a bachelor’s degree in industrial management from Mississippi State University in 1956. Davis was employed by Georgia-Pacific Corporation for 35 years, where he held various management positions and retired in 1996 as Executive Vice President for Building Products.
His greatest loves were his family and his church. On September 10, 1952, Davis married the former Anna Robling in Fort Sill, OK – his beloved wife of 61 years. Together, they raised three daughters and were founding members of Lake Oconee Lutheran Church. In 2023, Davis established the Bread of Life Ministry to help the church further serve his community.
Davis also enjoyed gardening, boating, travel, and sports. He loved to share his alma mater and his Danish heritage with others. MSU dedicated a School of Forestry classroom and a tract of timberland in Davis and Ann’s names for their many years of support and dedication to the university’s students. And his signature dish was aebleskiver. He was a Great Dane and a proud Bulldog.
Davis is preceded in death by his wife, Ann, his sister Joy Dreher Ask, and brothers-in-law John Dreher and Norval Lee Harris. He is survived by his daughters, Stephanie O’Brien (Mike), Beth Etheridge (Jimmy), and Ejna Mitchell (Keith), as well as his grandchildren, Hugh O’Brien, Jamee Smith (Phil), Drew Etheridge, Jake Mitchell, AnnaBeth Mitchell, and Katherine Mitchell. He is also survived by his sisters Dallas Harris and Rita Shepherd (Jerold) and many nieces and nephews.
