David Homer "Dave" Heffner, Sr., age 89, of Union Point, Georgia, passed away on Wednesday, September 3, 2025. Dave was born in Troy, New York, on August 19, 1936, to the late Frederick William Heffner and Gladys Bessie Abbott Heffner. He was a graduate of Syracuse University in Onondaga County, New York. On February 10, 1957, he married the former Joyce Lee. Dave was drafted into the United States Army and was stationed in Germany. After receiving an honorable discharge, he returned to the United States in September of 1961, and the couple made their home in Union Point, where he was actively involved in the community. He worked as the Land Management Engineer for Nichols Land and Development Company and retired in 2001 from Georgia Kraft as Senior Forester.
Dave was a longstanding member of the First Presbyterian Church of Union Point, serving as Deacon, Elder, on the maintenance committee, and treasurer. He was also a member of the Northeast Georgia Presbytery for forty-five years, participating on various committees. Additionally, he was a member of the Union Point Lions Club. He was a Boy Scout leader for many years and served on the Union Point Community Center Board. His hobbies included trout fishing, golfing, and bird hunting. He also enjoyed teaching Drivers Education for adults.
He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Joyce Lee Heffner; daughter, Christina Heffner of Dunwoody, GA; son, Lee Heffner of Greensboro, GA; grandson, Brandon Lee Heffner of Savannah, GA; brother, Dennis Heffner, and his wife Debbie, along with numerous friends. He was preceded in death by his son, David Homer Heffner, Jr. and his brothers, William Heffner and Thomas Heffner.
A Celebration of Life service will be held on Sunday, September 14, 2025, at 2:00 p.m. at the First Presbyterian Church of Union Point, located at 201 Veazey Street, Union Point, GA, with Rev. Dr. Ford G’Segner, Rev. Sue Jacobson, and Rev. John Lasana officiating. Interment will follow at Greenlawn Cemetery in Union Point, GA. The family requests that memorial contributions be made to The First Presbyterian Church of Union Point, 201 Veazey Street, Union Point, GA, or to the Northeast Georgia Health System Cancer Fund, 743 Spring Street NE, Gainesville, GA 30501.
