Dale Austin Brown, Sr.

Dale Brown peacefully passed away in his sleep at home on July 4, 2021 following an extended illness. Born St Patrick’s Day 1952, Dale had the charm and mischievous nature of a leprechaun. There was always a twinkle in his eye. He kept his mother on her toes. A native of Pike County, he chose to make Greene County his permanent home after returning from Vietnam in 1972. It was then he married his first wife Mary Meeks. They were together for 28 yrs. Their union saw the birth of 2 wonderful sons. They continued to maintain a loving friendship until his death. The time Dale had with his second wife, Tara Albo, was cut short after a motor vehicle accident. He deeply cherished their time together. Dale spent the last 15 yrs with Karen Rakestraw. They were married for the last 5 1/2 yrs. Karen devoted all she had to give in order to take care of Dale and keep him at home after he fell ill.
 
Dale spent his final working years as the Building Maintenance Supervisor for Greene County. He enjoyed his time with the county and all the friends he made there.  A jack of all trades, he enjoyed making knives and sculptures from wood or metal. He had a passion for singing and playing his guitar.  Dale made many friends and memories while living in Greene County. 

He is survived by his wife, Karen Rakestraw-Brown; children, Lonnie Brown (Lexie), Jesse Wiatt (Alicia), Shayna Wiatt (James) and Harley Wiatt; grandchildren: Dixie (Jacob), Randy, Daisy, LaciAna, Austin, Hailey, Madison and Bella; mother, Ann Warr; sisters, Cathi Brown Rakestraw, Tami Brown Mize and Glennis ‘GiGi’ Roach. Dale was preceded in death by his son, Dale Austin Brown Jr. aka ‘Audy’; brother, Greg Brown; father, Alanzo ‘Doc’ Brown; step fathers, ‘Stuffy’ Stewart and Randy Warr.

Memorial Services will be held Saturday, July 10, 2021 at 3:00 p.m. at McCommons Chapel, Greensboro, GA 30642 with Rev. Robert Robinson and Rev. Wayne Usry officiating.  The family will receive friends from 2:00 p.m. until time for the service at McCommons Funeral Home. After the service the family will meet at the home of Lonnie and Lexie Brown, 3230 Hensley Road, Union Point, GA 30669.   McCommons Funeral Home, 109 W.
