Curran G. Wood of Nicholson, GA, where he had resided for the past fifty-three years, passed away on Thursday, October 2, 2025, at Abbey Hospice in Social Circle.
Curran was born in Athens, GA, on July 24, 1946, to the late John Luther Wood and Pauline Watkins Wood. He graduated from Athens High School in 1965 and earned an associate degree from Athens Technical School in 1967. He served in the Army Reserves. On February 10, 1968, he married the love of his life, the former Martha Ellen Duvall, and they celebrated fifty-seven years of marriage at the time of his passing.
Throughout his career, Curran worked at Bell’s Food Stores and Winn-Dixie. He dedicated twenty-one years to the Physical Plant at The University of Georgia, retiring in 2007. He enjoyed outdoor activities such as hunting and fishing, as well as relaxing by watching movies, baseball, and football on television. Curran was a member of the Athens Gun Club.
He is survived by his wife, Martha Wood; his three sons, Andrew “Andy” Wood (Lisa), Matt Wood (Leila), and Brian Wood (Emily); his sister, Shirley Maconson; four grandchildren, Sadie Wood, Abby Wood, Ethan Curran Wood, and Amelia Wood; and his beloved dog, Dexter.
