Connie Elizabeth (Tolbert) Wood

Connie Elizabeth Tolbert Wood, age 75, of Penfield, GA, died Saturday, April 9, 2022, at her residence with her family.  Born in Washington, GA on April 18, 1946, she was the daughter of the late Martha Elizabeth English Tolbert and Joel Hughs Tolbert.  She graduated from Greene County High School. Connie married Ronnie Gene Wood on February 24, 1973.  She was a homemaker who enjoyed raising their children.  Over seventeen years she kept foster children that she loved as her own. During this time, she kept sixty-one children and baby sat many more. She also enjoyed crocheting dish rags to give away.  She had a passion for gardening and grew cactuses and beautiful roses. Another love she had was her animals which included cats, dogs, chickens, and goats.  Connie was a member of Celebration Baptist Church in Greensboro, GA.
    
Besides her husband of forty-nine years, Ronnie Wood of Penfield, GA, survivors include her children, Leigh Ann Wood Thompson and husband Stephen of Greensboro, GA, Michael Wood of Greensboro, GA, Beth Hall and husband Bruce of Union Point, GA and Matthew Wood; brother, Richard Tolbert and wife Brenda of Greensboro, GA; step daughter, Carolyn Cates of Penfield, GA; grandchildren, Austin Thompson and wife Kaitlyn, Michaela Wood, Seth Wood, Phoebe Edmonds, Autumn Hall, Chasity Thompson Weaver, Matthew Thompson, Brandon Heffner, Brayden Wood and Bryson Wood; great granddaughter, Maggie Thompson; a number of other relatives and many friends.  Also surviving are her good friends and caretakers, Ann Hunt, and Kim Hunt.  She was preceded in death by a grandson, Brandon Thompson.

Funeral Services will be held, Wednesday, April 13, 2022, at 11:00 a.m. at Celebration Baptist Church, 2470 Lick Skillet Road, Greensboro, GA 30642 with Rev. Kenny Marr officiating. The family will receive friends Wednesday, April 13, 2022, from 10:00 a.m. until time for the service at Celebration Baptist Church. Interment will follow in the Penfield Cemetery, 1211 Cemetery Road, Penfield, GA. Serving as pallbearers will be Tracy Christopher, Jimmy Wheeler, Butch Thompson, Wyatt Smith, Scott Brewer, Stephen Thompson and Bruce Hall.  McCommons Funeral Home, 109 W.
