Clyde Smith Obituary

The Reverend Doctor Clyde Ray Smith, age 76, of Greensboro, GA, passed away peacefully on Friday, October 10, 2008 after a courageous life with a battle of lymphoma for 16 years. Clyde was born in Dothan, Alabama on April 3, 1932. He was the eldest son of Latness and Marie Smith. He was a graduate of Dothan High School and Troy State University. He then spent 4 years as an A-3 missionary in Algeria, North Africa before entering the Candler School of Theology at Emory. He received his doctorate from McCormick Seminary in Chicago, IL. He was an ordained minister with the Alabama-Florida Conference and the North Georgia Conference of the United Methodist Church and served in his ministry for 44 years.

He was preceded in death by his father, Latness Smith. Survivors include his wife, Mottee Smith (Greensboro); son, Clyde Mark and Peggy Smith (Stockbridge); daughter Evelyn "Evie" and Pat Deloney (Rex); grandchildren, Kristin Deloney and Joshua Deloney; mother, Marie Smith Stanley; two brothers, Charles L. and Jewell Smith, Cody T. and Judy Smith; sister, Patricia and Jay Whitehead; Evelyn Smith, nieces and nephews, and great-nieces and nephews.

His body has been donated to Emory University School of Medicine. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, October 18, 2008 at 12:00 p.m. at Walker UMC. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Walker UMC (Greensboro, GA), Martha Brown UMC (Atlanta, GA) or Crossroads Hospice (Tucker, GA). McCommons Funeral Home, 109 W.
