Claud Edgar Robinson, age 85 of Greensboro, GA died Saturday, April 25, 2009 at Saint Joseph''s East Georgia Hospital in Greensboro. Born in Greene County on July 26, 1923, he was the son of the late Claud Edgar Robinson and Marie Audrey McWhorter. He attended North Georgia College and graduated from the University of Georgia in 1947 with a B.S. degree in landscape architecture. Claud served in the Army of the United States as a Staff Sergeant during World War II in Rhineland, Central Europe with the 3rd Battalion 260th Infantry. On December 27, 1946, he married the former Florence Roberts of Lithonia, GA. He was a member of the Episcopal Church of the Redeemer, worshipping there with family most of his life.

"Because of Claud''s affable manner, integrity, and wit he was always good company." He was a beloved husband, brother, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, uncle, and friend. He was an outdoorsman, quail hunter renown. Claud enjoyed reading books of poems, history, and faith, always delighting his audience with his recitations. He loved beautiful Greene County, Georgia, opening Granite Shoals Marina on Lake Oconee in 1979. Claud "displayed fortitude and courage in his illness without parallel, not subdued by misfortune but in spite of it, rose above it, accepting the inevitable as God''s will."

Claud is survived by his wife of sixty-two years, Florence Roberts Robinson of Greensboro, GA; a daughter, Susan R. Kelly and husband Warren of Lithonia, GA; a son, Philip C. Robinson and wife Carol of Greensboro, GA; a sister, Sara Robinson Fortson of Greensboro, GA; six grandchildren, William Drew Ferro and wife Megan of Stevens Point, WI; Sally Ferro Lanzel and husband Charles of Mesa, AZ; Stephen Robinson Ferro of Atlanta, GA; Philip Keith Robinson and wife Kasey of Greensboro, GA; and, Ezekial Charles Robinson of Athens, GA; seven great-grandchildren Ashley Lanzel, Sarah Lanzel, Seth Lanzel, Michael Johnston, Jacob Ferro, Luke Ferro, and Maddox Robinson; and several nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his son Claud Edgar Robinson, III (Ed), and his grandson Charles Andrew Ferro (Andy).

Graveside Services will be held on Tuesday, April 28, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. at the Lithonia City Cemetery with The Reverend Grant M. LeRoux, Jr. officiating. The family will receive friends on Monday, April 29, 2009, at McCommons Funeral Home, 109 W. Broad Street, Greensboro, GA from 6:30 to 8:00, and after the service at the graveside, then at the home of Susan R. Kelly, 6668 Chaparral Drive, Lithonia, GA (770) 482-6807.
