Cheri Diane (Thurmond) Moore

Cheri Diane Thurmond Moore of Greensboro, GA passed away on July 12, 2023 in the same home she was born in on November 27, 1943. She was 79. Her parents were the late Gillard McHenry “Dick” Thurmond and Estelle Pullian Thurmond. She graduated from Greensboro High School where she enjoyed 4-H, attended Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College and received a Bachelor’s degree from the University of Georgia.  On August 14, 1966, she married her high school sweetheart and the love of her life, James Donald “Jimmy” Moore. They lived in Forest Park where she taught school at Riverdale High School for thirty years and retired in 2002.  During this time, she taught both Home Economics and Childcare and Development. After Jimmy retired in 2005, they returned to Greensboro. Her many talents included quilting which she dearly loved.  She also enjoyed sewing, cooking, gardening and crafting.  She was a member of the local Meadowcrest Club and the Georgia Association of Educators.  Cheri was an active member of the Greensboro Presbyterian Church.  She had the biggest heart and was always doing for others. Orphan Aid Liberia was a favorite organization that she made clothes and teddy bears for.  She was one of the kindest, sweetest people you would know. Family meant so much to her and her grandchildren were the light of her life.

Along with her husband Jimmy Moore of Greensboro, she is survived by her children, Leigh Moore and Don Moore and his wife Heather; three grandchildren, Logan, Hayden and John David Moore;  sisters, Debbie Donald and Sandra Lanier; other relatives and many close friends. She was preceded in death by her brother, Ronald Thurmond. 

Memorial Services will be held Saturday, July 15, 2023 at 2:00 p.m. at the First Presbyterian Church, 117 S. Main Street, Greensboro, GA 30642 with Rev. Meg Jackson Clark officiating.  Interment will follow at the Greensboro City Cemetery, Memorial Drive, Greensboro, GA 30642. The family will receive friends from 1:00 p.m. until time for the service at the church. The family requests any memorials be made to the First Presbyterian Church, 117 S.
