Charles Nichols Obituary

Charles H. Nichols, 76, of Greensboro, Georgia passed away Friday, November 16, 2001. Born July 13, 1925 on the Nichols family farm in Greene County, he was a son of the late Grover Cleveland Nichols and Ella Roxane Emerson Nichols. As a child he attended Penfield School and graduated from Greensboro High School in 1942. He served in the United States Army Air Corp during World War II. After returning from the war, he was a United States Selective Service Draft Board member for Greene and Taliaferro Counties for 24 years and also was a member of the Greene County Welfare Board. Later he was the bookkeeper at Duvall Livestock Market and retired after 51 years. He was a member of Howard Masonic Lodge #138 in Maxeys, Georgia and Macedonia Baptist Church where he served as a deacon and song leader. He enjoyed coaching little league baseball for many years and working on his cattle farm.

He is survived by his wife Edna S. Nichols of Greensboro, Georgia; three sons, Charles Allen Nichols, Phillip Kevin Nichols and wife Wilma, Randall Stuart Nichols and wife Susan all of Greensboro, Georgia; eight grandchildren, Mike Nichols, Adam Nichols, Andrea N. Miller and husband Randy, Claire Nichols, Jeremy Nichols, Alecia Nichols, Rebecca Nichols, and Mary Beth Nichols. He was preceded in death by his brothers Howard F. Nichols and Grady C. Nichols.

Funeral Services will be held Sunday, November 18, 2001 at 3:00 p.m. at Macedonia Baptist Church with Rev. Joel Sorrow and Rev. David Jordan officiating. Burial will follow in Macedonia Cemetery with Masonic honors. Serving as pallbearers are Lewis Duvall, Melvin Duvall, E.G. "Billy" Copelan Jr., Joe Vaughn, Eugene Sidwell and Bill Sidwell. Honorary pallbearers are Joe Adcock, R.A. Moore, David Rice, James Price, C.W. Buchanan, Dewitt Price, Allen Moon, Barry Churchwell, Danny Edmonds and Members of Howard Lodge #138 Maxeys, Geogia. The family requests that memorials be made to Macedonia Baptist Church, c/o Mr. R.A. Moore, 2721 Macedonia Church Road, Union Point, Georgia 30669 or the charity of your choice. The family will receive friends Saturday night from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. at the Funeral Home. McCommons Funeral Home, 109 W. Broad St., Greensboro, GA, (706) 453-2626, is in charge of arrangements.
