Charles Alexander Obituary

On October 6, 1946, Charles Wayne Alexander was born at home to Wayne and Audrey Alexander while they waited for the doctor to arrive. Being that Charles was a rather large baby, Wayne wasn’t overly happy that the doctor arrived after Charles did.  Growing up, Charles enjoyed the farm life but engineering was his passion. After attending the North Georgia Military College, he went on to graduate from Georgia Tech as a civil engineer and held his professional engineer’s license up to his death. He also attended Georgia State University and MIT.  Charles was in the United States Army, he received an honorable discharge as a Captain. In 1968, he married the love of his life, Carmen. They had many adventures together in politics, mountain excursions, hanging out at “Cabin No.1”, and dancing in the kitchen to “Unchained Melody” every single time they heard the song.  In 1971, Charles’ status of husband was upgraded to father and as soon as Debra could talk, his name changed to Didhe.  Throughout his life, Charles was a member of many groups all over Georgia. These groups include: Jaycees, Gideons, and various Professional Engineers’ organizations.  Many Sundays, you could find him directing songs or singing at church and/or teaching Sunday School class.

In the late hours of November 17, 2023, the words, “well done my good and faithful servant” were music to his ears as God called him home to dance once again with Carmen.

Charles was preceded in death by his wife of 49 years, Carmen, parents, Wayne and Audrey Alexander, brother and sister-in-law, Lorin and Glenda Alexander, brother, Joe Alexander, brother-in-law, George Gibson, mother-in-law and father-in-law, Annie Mae and “Buck” Clark along with numerous extended family members. Charles was also preceded in death by his favorite pets, Deanie (in his words, the demon cat) and Ben (his beloved chow-chow).

Left to share his stories and love for children, nature, and a good college football game are his daughter and son-in-law, Debra and Eric Januchowski, grandson, James Barber and the love of James’ life, Madison Earle, granddaughter, Rebekah Barber, granddaughter and grandson-in-law, Cianne and Sabastian Christian, sister, Lola Gibson, brothers-in-law and wives: Richard and Susan Clark, Gary and Debbie Clark, Eddie and Nellie Jo Clark, as well as sisters-in-law and husbands Sue and Paul Christian, and Marsha and Michael Joiner, as well as many nieces and nephews, three great grandchildren, and more friends than can be counted.  McCommons Funeral Home, 109 W.
