Catherine Heinen Obituary

Catherine Lynch Heinen Catherine "Cathy" Lynch Heinen, age 80, of Eatonton, GA, died Monday, November 27, 2006 at her residence on Lake Oconee. Born in Jacksonville, FL on November 5, 1926, she was the daughter of the late Harold John Lynch and Edna Inez Floyd. She was a descendant of John McKissack, Jr., an early Eatonton-area settler who died in 1815. She grew up in Miami Beach, FL, first attending Barry College in Miami and then graduating from St. Mary-of-the-Woods College in Terre Haute, IN in 1948. After meeting on a blind date in 1945 prior to his deployment in the Navy during World War II, Cathy and Edward Thomas "Red" Heinen were married November 26, 1949.

Cathy and Red lived in Lakeland, Frostproof and Tallahassee, FL before moving overseas in 1961 where they served in the Diplomatic Corps with the United States Agency for International Development, spending 4 years in Khartoum, Sudan and Accra, Ghana. Upon their return, the family lived in Maitland, FL and Atlanta, GA, where Cathy served as an Adult Literacy volunteer and a teacher''s aide working with physically challenged children in the DeKalb County school system. She enjoyed cooking and made the world''s best key lime chiffon pies.

After retiring, they moved to Eatonton, GA where she especially enjoyed the beautiful sunrises over Lake Oconee and hosting family and friends. Cathy was a member of Christ Our King and Savior Catholic Church. She is survived by her husband of 57 years, Edward Thomas Heinen of Eatonton, GA; her daughter, Katy Heinen Tindall of Morristown, TN; her son, Matthew Paul Heinen and daughter-in-law Caroline Freytag Heinen of Olathe, KS; her brother, Harold John Lynch Jr., MD and sister-in-law Kathleen Nolan Lynch of Savannah, GA; six grandchildren, Allyson Tindall of Knoxville, TN, Patricia Tindall of Lawrence, KS, Paige Tindall of Morristown, TN, Mitchell Heinen, Madison Heinen, and Joseph Heinen, all of Olathe, KS; and many nieces, nephews, and other relatives as well as countless friends. Her son, William Barry Heinen in 1953 and son-in-law, James Raymond Tindall, MD in 1999, preceded her in death.

A memorial mass will be held Saturday, December 16, 2006 at 11 a.m. at Christ Our King and Savior Catholic Church in Greensboro, GA with Father G. Philip Ryan officiating. The family will receive friends after the service in the Sacred Heart Social Hall. The family suggests that, in lieu of flowers, memorials be made in memory of Catherine L. Heinen to St. Mary-of-the-Woods College, St. Mary-of-the-Woods, IN 47876 or to All Saints'' Episcopal School, 3275 Maple Valley Road, Morristown, TN 37813.
