Carolyn Worthen Stewart

Carolyn Worthen Stewart, age 69, of Union Point, Georgia, died Tuesday, June 3, 2008 at St. Mary''s Hospital in Athens. A native of Greene County she was born November 27, 1938 to the late Carroll Bynum Worthen and Ella Vashti Taylor Worthen. She grew up and attended high school in Union Point. On March 21, 1955 she married Marvin Dowell Stewart and they recently celebrated their fifty-third wedding anniversary. She began her career working at Hunter''s Drug Store in Greensboro and after Marvin got out of service they moved to Sparta. From Sparta she moved to Wadley, GA and along with her husband ran a Jewelry Store for a number of years. Later they moved to Savannah, GA where she worked at Woolworths, a loan company and a furniture store. They returned to Greensboro and for eight years ran Greensboro Jewelry. Later Carolyn worked for the Farmers Bank, Golden Pantry and managed apartments in Union Point and Greensboro. She was a member of Bethesda Baptist Church in Union Point. She was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother and friend who loved her family.

In addition to her husband, Marvin Dowell Stewart, of Union Point, GA, she is survived by a daughter, Janet Mize and husband Gary of Greensboro, GA; a son, Doug Stewart and wife Jackie of Foley, AL; two sisters, Betty Worthen Griffith of Union Point, GA and Brenda Faye Worthen of Union Point, GA; seven grandchildren, Lisa Polston, Brian Stewart, Erica Mize, Robert Allen, Russ Mize, Jason Stewart and Dan Mize; six great grandchildren, Krystal Mena, Jordan Mize, Haley Mize, Memphis Smith, Tyler Jordan and Bennett Stewart and a number of other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by a brother, Larry Eugene Worthen PFC and a grandson, Stephen Eugene Stewart.

Funeral Services will be held on Friday, June 6, 2008 at 3:00 p.m. at Bethesda Baptist Church with Rev. Terry Duvall officiating. Interment services will follow in the church cemetery. Serving as pallbearers are Russ Mize, Dan Mize, Jason Stewart, Brian Stewart, Mike Griffith and Joey Griffith.
