Carolyn Elizabeth (Chapman) Gentry

Carolyn Chapman “Carrie” Gentry, age 98, of Greensboro, GA died Saturday, April 27, 2018 at Greene Point Health Care Center in Union Point. A lifelong resident of Greene County born on August 31, 1919 in Siloam, GA, she was the daughter of the late Robert Clinton Chapman and Ollie Belle Mathews Chapman.  She graduated from Greensboro High School and later married Sam Turner “Red” Gentry on July 17, 1949. For many years she worked for C. W. Smith Insurance Agency as the secretary. Prior to that she worked for the Bank of Greensboro and Citizens Bank.  At the time of Carolyn’s death, she was the oldest living member of  Liberty United Methodist Church where she was the treasurer for twenty-seven years.  She was very involved with all activities at the church especially the youth in MYF.  She cooked many a meal for events at the church and for her family.  Carolyn was a beloved aunt who loved her nieces, nephews, great and great, great nieces and nephews.

Carolyn was preceded in death by her husband, Sam Turner “Red” Gentry in 2006; and two brothers, Robert Owen "Johnny" Chapman and Edward Byron Chapman; sister, Annie Lee Corry. She is survived by three sisters,Helen C. Ashley of Greensboro, GA, Joyce C. Webb of Greensboro, GA and Hilda C. Marshall of Greensboro, GA; a number of nieces, nephews, great and great, great nieces and nephews; other relatives and friends.

Funeral Services will be held Monday, April 30, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. at Liberty United Methodist Church, 3091 Liberty Church Road, White Plains, GA 30678 with Rev. Wes Privett officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. Serving as pallbearers are Sam Webb, Justin Jacobs, Robbie Chapman, Richard Marshall, Wayne Corry and Ethan Harkins. The family will receive friends from 10:00 a.m. until time for the service in the fellowship hall at the church.
